Our Pre-Collision System has been enhanced for the the Lexus LS with world-first technology. PCS now incorporates a Front Lateral Side Pre-Crash System to defend your vehicle from diagonal approaches, and Active Steering Assist to change course when braking won’t avoid a collision. Other road users are also better protected than ever before, with an advanced Pedestrian Alert which also detects cyclists and night-time pedestrians.
The PCS sensor system combines a millimeter wave radar, front lateral side radar, rear lateral side radar and stereo camera to ensure that the driver has maximum awareness of the road around them. If another vehicle is detected in an area where collision is likely, the driver will be alerted through visual and audio cues, before applying the brakes when necessary.
If PCS determines that braking will be insufficient to avoid contact with another vehicle, pedestrian or obstacle, Active Steering Assist will perform evasive steering action in conjunction with automatic braking. This system detects fixed objects in the road such as pedestrians and guardrails, to bring you to the safest stop possible.
When a pedestrian is detected in front, PCS uses world-first technology to communicate the pedestrian’s position via an animation on the driver’s head-up display. This animation shows the vehicle’s trajectory in relation to the pedestrian, and any potential for collision. A world-first, this innovation ensures that drivers are intuitively aware of the road ahead and able to take evasive action.
