THE 2011 LEXUS RACE TO MOUNT JULIET
Following the success of the 2010 Lexus Race to Mount Juliet in association with PING and Fáilte Ireland, the Irish PGA Order of Merit was once again decided in Kilkenny on October 15th – 16th. Lexus have been title sponsors of the event since its inception in 2010.
The top 30 golfers in the Irish PGA Order of Merit rankings qualified for the 36 hole finale of the Lexus Race to Mount Juliet where they competed for €50,000 in prize money.
Barrie Trainor, the winner of The Lexus Race to Mount Juliet, received a €10,000 prize bonus. The top eight golfers in the Order of Merit have gained automatic qualification to the 2012 Irish Open and the PGA play-offs in Antalya, Turkey.
The continued involvement of Mount Juliet, Lexus and Ping was a significant boost to the Irish PGA who, under economic uncertainty, has managed to maintain sponsorship investment on a par with 2010 levels of €800,000.
Kevin O’Reilly, Operations Manager, Lexus Ireland commented:
“We pride ourselves on being an international luxury brand with a strong golfing pedigree having been associated with the British Open and now the second running of the PGA’s Lexus Race to Mount Juliet. Our support of this event demonstrates our commitment to golf in Ireland and gives our loyal customers and the general public the opportunity to get up close and personal with the best on the Irish PGA tour.”
Colin Donovan, Managing Director of Mount Juliet Estate added:
“After the outstanding success of the inaugural Lexus Race to Mount Juliet in association with PING and Failte Ireland we were delighted to once again partner with the Irish PGA in showcasing Ireland’s top golfers to the public. The course was in immaculate condition for this year’s finale and the feedback from the pros was a real affirmation of our efforts to provide a world class facility here at Mount Juliet."
The successful conclusion of the season long event was welcomed across the Professional Game in Ireland, Michael McCumiskey, Regional Secretary of the PGA, said:
"The launch and continued success of the Lexus Race to Mount Juliet is one of most significant achievements that the Irish PGA has been involved in and one that would not be possible with the support of our sponsors."
